About Save A Lab...

Save A Lab is a non-profit, home-based animal shelter, started March 4, 2001, dedicated to ensuring that domestic pets have safe, loving, permanent homes. We are a no-kill shelter, specializing in Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers, but no animal is turned away based on breed. The shelter is operated by two working professionals out of their home in Indianapolis, Indiana. Animals are rescued and trained in their spare time with the hopes of placing them in good permanent homes. Fostering provides an opportunity for the shelter to assess a dogs personality and temperment, which are then disclosed to potential adopters to the best of the shelter's ability.

Save A Lab can assist current owners in finding new homes for their pets via various search channels. When necessary, we will accept surrendered pets, and those animals will remain in the care of Save A Lab as long as is necessary to find them new homes. Save A Lab also rescues stray or abandoned animals.

Save A Lab screens adoption applicants, via written application, interview, and vet/personal reference checks. We reserve the right to decline any application for any reason. Our first commitment is to finding the ideal, permanent home for each pet. Adoption fees and donations are non-refundable.

Animals will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated before leaving Save A Lab for placement in a new home, whenever those procedures have not yet been performed. When adopting a pet that is too young to be altered, the new owner is required to have the procedure performed as soon as the pet is of age. Save A Lab reserves the right to take custody of an adopted pet from the adopter if the pet is not spayed/neutered when appropriate, and or not provided with appropriate general care.

Save A Lab will disclose, to the adopter, all known information regarding the animal’s history, health, and behavior. While we seek out dogs who are in good health and get them necessary vet care prior to adoption, we can not guarantee them to be free of congential diseases (Labradors are susceptible to hip dysplasia as well as other joint problems). As an adopter, you agree to release Save A Lab from any responsibility for the health of, or damage/injury caused by, the adopted pet. Animal behavior and health is inherently unpredictable, and ownership of any companion animal requires accepting the uncertainty of both.

Thank you for your interest in Save A Lab. We appreciate any donations of funds, pet foods, and pet supplies. If you wish to know more about any of the dogs available for adoption, or should you wish to make a contribution to this operation, please email info@savealab.com.
